Challenges
Project includes mechanical, plumbing, electrical and information systems infrastructure upgrades in multiple existing buildings including the central plant. All upgrades and addition to these infrastructure systems had to be designed and phased to allow for the existing hospital and essential and infrastructure systems to remain in operation at all times.
Solutions
Space constraints relative to program requirements became evident during scope validation and schematic design. The use of integrated facility infrastructure equipment enclosures for electrical branch power and distribution were used which allowed for smaller electrical room footprints. Similarly, the use of pre-fabricated headwalls in all patient rooms and bays allows for compact, prefabricated piping and conduit connection assemblies which saved space and increased speed to completion.
Accommodated smart, sustainable parking on site. New electric vehicle charging station introduced in public and staff parking areas.
Design of MEP infrastructure and finish systems in a manner that allowed for significant off-site fabrication which provided great quality controls, smaller lay down requirements, just-in-time delivery and elimination of construction materials waste.
