1. OSHA has a Short Fuse on Arc Flash
This year at National Manufacturing Week in Chicago last week one thing that stood out immediately was a commitment to addressing the subject of arc flash. According to Steve Kovach, with fuse manufacturer Cooper Bussmann, the big push for greater arc-flash awareness has to do with the tone being set by OSHA, which recently adopted NFPA 70E as the standard on the matter. More than 86% of respondents said that their lighting work now involves products and controls, according to a recent survey by Electrical Contractor Magazine. The implication is that designers now see lighting equipment and controls as integrated no longer as separate, diverse markets.

3. ASHRAE Approves Indoor Noise Criteria Study
ASHRAE has recently approved more than $1 million in funding for research projects in various areas. Of that amount, nearly $70,000 is set aside for Productivity and Perception Based Evaluation of Indoor Noise Criteria, 1322-RP, a project that will study how indoor noise impacts productivity.
