Challenges
After purchasing the assets of custom machine builder Kingsbury Corp. in Keene, N.H., Optimation laid plans to relocate all purchased equipment to its own facility at 1600 Lexington Avenue in Rochester. This was a fast-track project; machinery and equipment needed to be dismantled, crated and shipped, installed, and running in its new location quickly to begin work on spare parts orders already coming in from clients.
Solutions
Optimation designed the new 180,000-sq-ft machine shop including a new Kingsbury main office complex in Rochester. Beginning in March of 2012, Optimation skilled trades began dismantling, rigging, and crating 105 truckloads of Kingsbury equipment to be installed in the empty shop space. Optimation’s engineers, designers, skilled tradesmen, and IT specialists all worked together to complete this massive project, a total investment of $4 million. Optimation skilled tradesmen installed the HVAC, electrical power, compressed air, and water lines to power each machine. Optimation’s project managers subcontracted non-core competencies such as trucking and shipping, concrete foundations, drywall, painting, tiling, and carpeting. Project managers also worked closely with the Town of Greece to meet building requirements, codes, and regulations. Within 9 months, the new shop was up and running and fulfilling orders. This tight schedule was met only because of Optimation’s ability to self-perform with its full set of engineering, skilled trades, and project management services.
