Luminaire for office and commercial building stairwells features an occupancy sensor and electronic dimming ballast. During times of no traffic, the unit’s fluorescent T8 lamp operates at 5% light level. When someone enters the stairwell, the light level adjusts to full output, then dims after a brief period of no occupancy. (Stairwell Luminaire by Day-Brite Lighting)
Return temperature control is designed to protect boilers from thermal shock and provide sustained condensing operation. The unit monitors boiler return water temperature and operates a three-way diverting valve and boiler circulator to maintain a minimum return temperature of 135°F. Included are a set-point control, outdoor reset and an LCD display to monitor and regulate return water temperature. (RTC by Burnham Commercial)
Security card is protected by encryption that secures transmitted information. Rapid transport of large amounts of data—at a maximum rate of 424 Kbit per sec.—is achievable with the card. One card, which has a flexible file system and 4 KB memory capacity, can hold 28 applications, each secured with 14 access keys. (DESFire by IntegratedEngineering)
Air conditioner is portable and designed for localized cooling in small areas, particularly in IT closets. Outside air is brought in and hot air removed using a dual ducting kit for the inlet and exhaust condenser air. The unit is programmable with built-in scheduled operation to supplement existing air-conditioning systems. (PA4000 by American Power Conversion)
Power distribution system eliminates the need for traditional hard wiring equipment for delivering power through data centers and workstations. The preconfigured system delivers 50 amps and 208 volts and provides up to 15 kW of power. It is available in 4- and 8-ft. snap-together lengths and mounts underfloor. (Snake Bus by Snake Tray)
Water source heat pump is retrofit-capable with older pumps and is available in new sizes. New features include a compact cabinet design, improved sound performance using a tray-mounted compressor double isolation design and high static blower options in most units. Horizontal cabinet sizes range from a half ton to five tons and vertical from three-quarters ton to five tons. (Genesis Compact Series by ClimateMaster)
Energy storage systems are battery-free and provide adjustable DC voltage. They replace or augment batteries configured with UPS systems that support critical applications ranging in power from 100 kW to 2,000 kW and accept an input float voltage from 400 to 600 volts DC to supply a charging current of 15 to 100 amps per flywheel. (CleanSource DC by Active Power)
Temperature sensor is designed to monitor refrigerant temperature in condenser and evaporator coils. Its snap-on design integrates a fast-response thermistor element into a plastic overmolded copper clip that snaps onto 3/8-in. return bends. (Sens-A-Coil by Advanced Thermal Products)
Ethernet cables are offered in twisted-pair copper and fiber-optic versions. Fiber-optic models are suitable for indoor and outdoor applications and include a water-blocking agent. The copper series are verified to meet Category 5e performance standards and feature heavy-duty sunlight- and oil-resistant jackets. (TrayOptic and DataTuff by Belden Electronics Division)
Digital DC drives , designed for standalone applications, are said to be ideal for retrofits. The series includes drives rated up to 500 hp for use on line supply voltages from 230 volts to 500 volts. The compact size of the drives allows for integration of more components within the same space. (DC400 by Saftronics)
Ballasts support a series of the manufacturer’s compact fluorescent lamps. One ballast can operate either one or two 60-watt lamps, one 85-watt lamp or one 120-watt lamp. A 90°C maximum case temperature rating allows for flexible fixture design application versatility as well as the ability to start lamps down to -22°F. (SmartMate for PL-H by Advance Transformer)
Transformers , available from 15 kVA to 750 kVA in primary voltages of 600 and below, offer options such as NEMA 3R outdoor enclosures. Saved energy with these models is said to yield less than a three-year payback on their up-front cost. (GTP-1 Series by Hitran)
Ballast system is suitable for controlling large multi-lamp arrays such as stadium lighting, outdoor architectural displays and amphitheaters. It is said to be capable of achieving efficiency ratings of greater than 95% while requiring fewer electronic components than less efficient models. (MULTI-ARC by Warner Power)
Luminaires offered in RGB and mono versions are designed to retrofit into many QR111 or Par36 fixtures. Beams can be created in 16 million different colors. The mono version is available with seven different colors of LEDs. (Sparkle by Xilver)
