The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) is re-launching its previous VDV Conference as the Conference on Integrated Building Systems (IBS), and will be presenting the event concurrently with its own annual convention and trade show, Sept. 17—20 in New Orleans .
The event is intended for electrical contractors, project managers and estimators working on “smart” buildings, which NECA defines as structures featuring fully integrated power and communication systems designed for maximum energy efficiency. The organization says the conference will familiarize its audience with recent developments in integrated building systems, including new technology, products, specifying formats and how these changes affect all levels of the electrical-contracting professions.
In addition to seminar sessions, attendees also can visit the IBS pavilion, located on the tradeshow floor at the NECA convention, which will spotlight related manufacturers, suppliers and products.
NECA, BICSI Updating Joint Telecom Standard
Members of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and Building Industry Consulting Services International (BICSI) have begun updating their joint standard, NECA/BICSI 568, “Standard for Installing Commercial Building Telecommunication Cabling.” The new edition is expected to be published in spring 2006.
The standard provides guidance for installing networking systems, and the current edition, NECA/BICSI 568-2001, is referenced in the 2005 National Electrical Code (NEC).
Updates are anticipated to include the latest installation techniques for Category 6 cabling and laser-optimized fiber.
