Randy L. Larson, PE, CCM, GC, has been selected by the Construction Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) to receive its 2008 Construction Management Award. According to Patrick Natale, ASCE’s executive director, “[Larson] was chosen for this award for his outstanding leadership and innovative management of the construction of major infrastructure projects and his tireless commitment to the profession.”
Gregs G. Thomopulos, PE—chairman/CEO of Stanley Consultants, Muscatine, Iowa—was chosen to be president-elect of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers at the group’s recent conference in Quebec City.
Houston-based Smith Seckman Reid Inc., an engineering design and facility consulting firm, has announced a number of new hires. Claudia Autry, senior project manager and senior electrical engineer, will be responsible for the design of lighting systems, emergency power systems, and power distribution for all health care related projects in the firm’s home office. Andy Nguyen, PE, senior electrical engineer, will be responsible for lighting systems, emergency power systems, and power distribution design in the firm’s Dallas office. Kenneth Palmer, electrical engineer, will be responsible for lighting systems, emergency power systems, and power distribution design in the firm’s Houston office.
Charlotte, N.C.-based Syska Hennessy Group—a consulting, engineering, technology, and construction firm–has named Mark Etheridge local market focus leader for its health science division. Currently an SHG vice president, Etheridge will manage the health science team in the firm’s Charlotte office and supporting healthcare/health science clients throughout the Southeast.
ARCADIS, an Akron, Ohio-based consulting and engineering company, has named Kevin Kehres senior project manager in its Akron office. Kehres brings to the company more than 20 years of experience in managing and designing highways. In addition, he has assisted communities in applying for and obtaining project funding and recently completed several urban roadway improvement projects.
D. Bruce Corkle, PE, has been named West Division Manager at MACTEC Engineering and Consulting Inc., an Alpharetta, Ga.-based infrastructure consulting firm. Corkle, who has been with the company since 1995, has more than 30 years of consulting experience, heavily in process design and civil site development, and he is a co-inventor of a patented process to reduce recycled process water.
Newark, N.J.-based engineering/design firm Thornton Tomasetti Inc. has announced a number of promotions. The firm promoted Chris Christoforou, PE, to senior VP/principal; Christoforou—with the company since 1985–has extensive experience in the structural design of concrete and steel buildings and investigations and remedial work for existing concrete structures.
