M/E Insider: SBIC Elects New Board; State ACEC Chapters Hand Out Awards

• The Sustainable Buildings Industry Council (SBIC) has announced its new board of directors for the 2005-2006 term. Re-elected were J. Gregg Borchelt , vice president of the Brick Industry Association; Scott Sklar , president of the Stella Group, Ltd. and representative for the Solar Energy Industries Association; Dona Stankus , building program manager for the North Carolina Solar Center; and Michael Weise , director of government marketing for Trane and the SBIC treasurer. Newly elected were Gary DeSantis , senior corporate architect for the BASF Corporation and Ken Langer , president of Environmental Market Solutions, Inc.

• Earth Tech, Inc. , part of Tyco International Ltd. , recently garnered three 2005 Best in State Engineering Excellence Awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Wisconsin . On the M/E/P side of things, the company won an award for its work on DaimlerChrysler’s Dayton Thermal Products facility in Dayton, Ohio, where it designed, built and operates a groundwater remediation system that combines a traditional groundwater “pump-and-treat” system method with new groundwater in-situ reductive dechlorination remediation technology.

In other ACEC news, the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois has recognized four members for their community service efforts at the organization’s 34thAnnual Winter Conference and Engineering Excellence Awards Program last month in Chicago. Robert Benton of Benton & Associates, Inc., Jacksonville, received the 2005 ACEC-IL Engineers’ Community Leader Award and was also recognized by ACEC with a National Community Service Award. David Oates , Oates Associates, Inc., Collinsville; Larry Pithan , KJWW Engineering Consultants, Rock Island; and Mike Goodkind , Alfred Benesch & Co., Chicago, all received ACEC-IL 2005 Engineers’ Community Service Awards.

Three new professional engineers have joined Richard D. Kimball Company, Inc. , Andover, Mass.: Rand Refrigeri, P.E. , as chief fire protection engineer; Tim Curran, P.E. , as a senior mechanical project manager; and David Newton, P.E. , as a senior mechanical engineer.

• Daniel C. White, AIA , has joined RTKL Associates, Inc.’s Chicago office as vice president of the health practice group. Prior to RTKL, White served as a principal with the Chicago office of Phillips Swager Associates. He has twenty years of design experience, specializing in health care.
