Kim Sousa
was named marketing director at RDK , Andover, Mass. She will develop and execute strategic plans and oversee the firm’s marketing efforts in three offices—Andover, Boston and New Brunswick, N.J. Sousa is the chair of the Marketing/PR Committee of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts, and is a member and past preside of the Boston Chapter of the Society of Marketing Professional Services.

BSA LifeStructures , Indianapolis, named Kalevi Huotilainen and John Sauer, LEED AP, senior vice presidents. Both 10-year employees each held the position of vice president before their promotions and are collaborating on the design of the University of Notre Dame Multidisciplinary Engineering Teaching and Research Building. An architectural design principal, Huotilainen has nearly 25 years of experience. As a mechanical engineering principal, Sauer has more than 30 years of engineering experience.

Four employees have been promoted to principals at GHT Ltd ., Arlington, Va.: Jim Cafferty, P.E. ; Jeffrey Salay, P.E .; Steve Herrlein , and Steve Wohlschlegel, P.E . Cafferty and Wohlschlegel also serve as project managers. The firm also announced the promotion of Matt Jacobs, P.E ., to senior principal.

KJWW Engineering Consultants , Rock Island, Ill., announced several promotions to the firm. Steve Rhoades, P.E., LEED AP , has been named branch manager of the St. Louis office. He also has been promoted to associate principal. Also at the St. Louis branch, Jim Kappeler, P.E . and Philip Kikel have been promoted to senior engineer. At the firm’s Rock Island headquarters, five employees have been promoted to senior engineers: Matt Snyder, P.E .; Brian Leavitt, P.E ; Bill Serre ; Mike Lawless, P.E .; and Gary Reinheimer . Cory Satterfield, P.E ., has been named supervisor of the structural department at the Rock Island office. The firm’s Madison office also announced promotions. Steve Hays, P.E. has been named an associate of the firm. Marty Witt, RCDD, PSNA has been promoted to senior designer. At the firm’s Des Moines, Iowa, office, Andy Thielen, P.E., LEED AP , has been named an associate of the firm; Ryan Chapman, P.E ., has been given new responsibilities as a market segment leader—higher education; Dennis Forniash, P.E., F.P.E ., has been named assistant supervisor of the firm’s mechanical department; and Isaac Stoll has been promoted to electrical designer. Finally, the firm’s Chicago office announced promotions. Eric Vandenbroucke, P.E., LEED AP has been named an associate of the firm. Jeff Oke, P.E., LEED AP has been promoted to senior engineer and Darrin Harres, R.C.D.D. has been named senior designer. Dave Pflipsen, P.E., LEED AP is now the supervisor of the mechanical department in the Chicago office.

Tom Darmody joined HOK , St. Louis, as senior vice president and director of transportation in the firm’s San Francisco location. He brings 37 years of experience in the planning, design and construction of major transportation projects, with an emphasis on airports and aviation infrastructure.
SmithGroup , Detroit, hired Michael Skalsky as structural engineer in its Detroit location.
Paul Johnson , of the firm’s Building Technology Studio, has been named Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. Johnson is the sole AIA Detroit Chapter member to receive this award for 2007.
