Iowa high school receives PLTW certification
Some Johnston High School students could have almost a semester of college credit upon graduation, thanks to the school's affiliation with Project Lead the Way, a national engineering-education program.
Iowa’s Des Moines Register reported that “[s]ome Johnston (Iowa) High School (JHS) students could have almost a semester of college credit” upon graduation, “thanks to the school’s affiliation with” Project Lead the Way (PLTW), a “national engineering-education program.”
JHS recently became fully certified as a Project Lead the Way school, three years after Joshua Heyer, an industrial technology teacher at the high school, became involved with PLTW. “Affiliate engineers with Iowa State University and the University of Iowa visited the school this year to survey the program and decide whether it should receive certification,” Heyer said.
According to Heyer, the “program is off to a great start…because of the support he has received from district administrators, the Johnston school board, and a district-level program advisory board made up of engineers, educators, and parents.”
