S&C Electric , Chicago, announced the groundbreaking ceremony for its Advanced Technology Center, which took place June 17 at the John R. Conrad Industrial Complex, S&C’s headquarters location. Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley attended the event along with a host of civic leaders representing the city and neighborhood community. Lochinvar , Lebanon, Tenn., manufacturer of high-efficiency water heaters, boilers, and pool heaters, has been named among the 2008 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award recipients. The Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. government to employers for their outstanding support of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. Ferraz Shawmut, Newburyport, Mass., a subsidiary of the Carbone Lorraine Group, announced the acquisition of a majority shareholding in the Chinese company, Zhejiang Mingrong Electrical Protection. The joint venture continues Carbone Lorraine’s expansion in Asia, and it positions Ferraz Shawmut to become a platform for new product development for Asian markets. Leviton, Little Neck, N.Y., announced the appointment of Mike Mattei to the position of vice president and general manager for its commercial and industrial business. In his new post, Mattei is responsible for building sales of the company’s commercial and industrial wiring devices and systems across its electrical distribution, retail, and end-user market channels. Dual-Lite, Greenville, S.C., a Hubbell Lighting brand, announced the appointment of John E. Lane to the position of engineering manager, life safety products. Lane has 25 years of experience in the lighting industry (20 of those years dedicated exclusively to life safety equipment). CES Group, Chaska, Minn., announced the appointment of A. Bruce Buchholz as vice president and general manager of its Mammoth and WEBCO brands.
