Karen Panetta, IEEE Women in Engineering Committee chair, appeared on NBC’s The Today Show on July 18. Panetta discussed the nationally acclaimed Nerd Girls program, which she created and founded.

Nerd Girls is an outreach program for female engineering students. The group challenges the stereotype that women in engineering are “lacking social skills and nontechnical interests,” she said.

IEEE.tv has shot a pilot of Nerd Girls as a reality show. A group of Nerd Girls from Tufts University, Medford, Mass., was filmed in June trying to build a solar car.
