To address the General Services Administration’s (GSA) large backlog of maintenance projects for federal buildings, legislation has been proposed by the Bush Administration that would enable the GSA to team with private developers.
Driven by a strong need for renovations, the legislation would allow the GSA to seek out private-sector funding for facilities that would be permitted to house both federal and private-sector offices.
With an estimated $4.6 billion worth of work that needs to be done, proponents of this legislation claim that the GSA’s policies are outdated and need to be revisited.
