YL08 – Beyond Platinum: Revolutionary Green
As early adopters to green building, we’re ready to ask, what’s next? We will bring together three of the movement’s most articulate leaders in a spirited and interactive dialogue to explore what it looks like on the other side of a post-fossil fuel world: Jim Hartzfeld, founder and managing director of InterfaceRAISE, Dayna Baumeister, PhD, co-founder of Biomimicry Guild, and Adam Werbach, CEO of Act Now. Our speakers believe green building will be the catalyst for a collective consciousness-raising that will move business and humanity in ways we haven’t yet imagined. The convergence of three forces is critical: Leadership, Consciousness and Design.

OR04 – Carbon Neutral by 2010: How a Fortune Firm Identifies, Reduces and Offsets its Footprint
After stating the ambitious goal of becoming Carbon Neutral by 2010, CB Richard Ellis was tasked with the challenge of verifying its current carbon footprint, identifying immediate potential changes to be made to reduce this footprint, creating long-term strategies to innovatively overcome obstacles to its environmental goals, and finally, purchasing carbon offsets to ensure absolute carbon neutrality. Hear about the process of creating a viable sustainability policy, the roadblocks and obstacles of tackling environmental solutions for a company located worldwide, and the incorporation of environmental strategies into the day to day operations.

BL04 – Carbon Offsets – Exploring the Edge of the Map
In this time of confusion and greenwashing, what form of offset or action can organizations commit to with real value to the environment, real mitigation for our impact, and that our customers understand? As we wrestle with how to legitimately balance out the negative impacts they have on the environment, we soon discover how complex a proposition that is. We’ll explore: Available forms of impact mitigation, and their issues, Case studies of a range of offsets and creative alternatives, Effective approach to getting the right offsets at the right price, Incorporating mitigation into corporate sustainability strategy.

GR14 – Does Green Pay Off?
In the first study to use all of the leasable commercial office data from the entire US, we compare occupancy rates, rental rates and values for LEED, Energy Star and non-green peer properties. We control for location, age and class in this comparison which provides strong evidence that there is green in green. We also discuss evidence on the strength of future demand for sustainable real estate and the challenges facing the real estate industry.
