The G-20 summit , an annual financial meeting of world leaders, will meet on Sept. 24 in Pittsburgh . For the first time in the meeting’s 10-year history, the building that hosts the event will be predominantly powered by the environment.

Pittsburgh’s David L. Lawrence Convention Center, the largest green building in the country, will host the political leaders and financial experts during the event in September. Pittsburgh’s is the only convention center to be awarded the gold rating in the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED program .

The convention center uses green technology in several aspects of its infrastructure, according to the building’s website. Natural lighting from skylights, glass walls, and large windows beam sunlight on 75% of the building. The building has its own water reclamation plant in an effort to recycle water from sinks and drinking fountains. An on-site aquifer assists the center’s cooling towers, which leads to saved water for the rest of Pittsburgh and a 66% reduction in purchased water.
