A fellowship in advanced lighting controls to help support a new Master of Science in Engineering program at the University of California, Davis, has been endowed by Watt Stopper/Legrand , Santa Clara, Calif. The masters program is scheduled to begin in fall 2007 and will be jointly administered by the departments of Design and Electrical & Computer Engineering. The fellowship will support outstanding students seeking to enhance their understanding of lighting controls and contribute new knowledge to the field. Recipients will engage in integrated design and engineering coursework and will conduct directed research at UC Davis’ California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC) for completion of a masters thesis.

By establishing the Watt Stopper Graduate Fellowship in Lighting Controls, the company hopes to encourage more bright students to turn their attentions to the growing needs for energy saving controls. The company is also a key supporter of the CLTC, which conducts both cooperative and independent activities with lighting manufacturers, electric utilities and the design and engineering professional communities. The CLTC was established through a joint effort by the California Energy Commission and the University of California, Davis.
