Gauging energy efficiency of buildings
A new ISO standard gives new-building engineers and designers a tool for improving energy savings of their structures.
ISO 23045:2008 (Building Environment Design–Guidelines to Assess Energy Efficiency of New Buildings) has been created to help the building sector improve the energy efficiency of new structures, through specific design guidelines.
The standard’s objectives include helping engineers, designers, and owners in collecting useful data required at different stages of the design process, and to meet building design objectives, while delivering maximum energy efficiency. The standard applies to new buildings, HVAC systems, water heating, and other related controls. Factors considered range from building location, definition of the envelope, energy systems, and products used.
