Showing impressive growth, U.S. factory telecommunication equipment sales jumped more than 20 percent from 1999 to 2000, finishing at $100.3 billion in 2000, according to a recent market report released by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), Arlington, Va.

U.S telecommunications exports totaled $27.9 billion last year—a 23-percent increase from 1999.

Even though telephone apparatus and parts accounts for the largest market segment at $8.6 billion, the fastest-growing market segment for exports was fiber-optic cable.

“An increase of 75 percent in fiber-optic cable exports reflects the continued demand for high-speed broadband in the communications market,” says TIA President Matthew J. Flanigan.
