Economic outlook

July 2, 2010

I just got off the phone with a member of our editorial advisory board, who declined the offer to write a story. I was happy to hear his excuse—he has too much work, and can’t even keep up with his own duties, let alone take on a technical article.

He said he has projects booked for the next 12 to 18 months, which is great to hear in this economy. He’s also working frantically to add staff, specifically engineers in training (EITs). He told me about his daunting task of interviewing each good candidate. He even had to interview via phone one while driving between projects.

How’s your business holding up? I find it uplifting to hear great stories like this, but it’s just a sampling of what’s going on out there.

Send me your project and hiring stories—good and bad—and I’ll compile them in this space. And if you have an open position, send me that too. We’d love to connect you with the next great engineer.
