Dubiotech raises the standard for green building construction

The world’s largest LEED certified green building title now resides in Dubai at Dubiotech .

The Dubai Biotechnology and Research Park, a member of TECOM Investments , recently won the Design and Sustainability Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) New Jersey Chapter. The CUH2A project includes a 22-story, 60,000-sq. ft headquarters and laboratory buildings that will house the center of excellence for biotechnology education and research. The complex also includes a 500,000 sq. ft animal reserve for indigenous conservation and wildlife protection. The scheduled completion for phase 1 of the complex is 2009.

The Dubiotech building will offer collaboration between universities, medical institutions, and biotechnology parks to create more than 20,000 jobs. Italian architect David Fisher’s design displays DNA movement in a gel electrophoresis, where the alternate slabs running along side the complex symbolizes DNA strands of different sizes migrating in a gel.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, United Arab Emirates vice president and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, launched the project as part of Dubai’s 2010 vision to establish a knowledge-based economy.
