DOE allots $300 million in rebates for energy efficient appliances

The U.S. Dept. of Energy (DOE) announced that $300 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will be given to individual states to promote the purchase of energy efficient appliances. According to Energy Efficiency News , states will receive a share of the funds (depending on their size and other criteria) to offer rebates to customers buying Energy Star qualified products, in combination with other energy efficiency programs.

While individual states will be able to choose which Energy Star appliances will receive a rebate, the DOE is encouraging authorities to focus on heating and cooling equipment, white goods, and water heaters. States have not yet released details on how they plan on administering rebates, but so far there has been no talk of limiting the rebates to residential consumers. California, the country’s most populated state, will be eligible to receive more than $35 million.
