CSI Forms Partnership with NCEMBT
Michael Sullivan, general president of the Sheet Metal Workers’ International Assn., presented a grant of $180,000 earlier this month to Mike Owens, president of CSI for the Construction Taxonomy Project, initiating a formidable partnership between the NationalCenter for Energy Management and Building Technologies (NCEMBT) and the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI).
The collaboration between CSI and the NCMEBT will result in standards for terminology that will be commonly used throughout the entire life cycle of the built environment in North America, in project delivery, operations and management.
The Construction Taxonomy Project will establish a standard lexicon of terms used in the construction industry with the ultimate goal being the creation of a consensus standard for American English construction terminology. “Mike Owens and I have a similar vision–that in order for this country’s construction industry to remain the greatest provider of quality construction, our respective organizations must become conduits to facilitate a more efficient and productive construction process,”
“CSI has been able to identify obstacles in the process that created a less efficient construction industry. The NationalCenter, with its mission to support research, participate in standard setting, advance technical training and professional education is a natural partner.”
The facilitation of standard terminology will assist the industry in the complex process of coordinating documents and facilitating the transmittal of information required in construction activity.
