Time: Oct. 18, 2:45 p.m.

In this presentation, Brian Rener will review the importance of design standards and quality assurance programs, and provide an outline of how engineers can propose a program at their own firm to save time and money during the design phase and avoid costly errors and omissions issues during construction.

Brian Rener has more than 20 years of experience in management and engineering for new and existing facilities. His specialization is in electrical power and life safety systems for commercial, industrial, governmental, and mission critical facilities. He is a member of the IEEE industrial applications Chicago society where he has served as an officer and chair. Learning objectives:
1. The audience will learn the importance of using design standards for engineering efficiency when designing and specifying products and systems into a building.
2. Attendees will gain an understanding of why a quality assurance program is important, and will hear about the results and successes in architectural engineering firms.
3. The audience will collaboratively list all of the key aspects of design/drawing review, and determine which of these items are already in place at the attendees’ firms.
4. Attendees will understand the risk and benefit to establishing and running an effective engineering standards and quality assurance program.
