Consulting-Specifying Engineer 2014 Product of the Year finalists: Test instruments, meters, data loggers
Sequence of events recorder
Cyber Sciences’ SER-2408 CyTime sequence of events recorder is designed to help simplify testing of emergency power supply systems in mission critical facilities. With 24 high-speed digital inputs, eight control relay outputs, and data-log groups with simultaneous recording of inputs/outputs, the SER-2408 enables specialized reporting to support mandatory test compliance with standards for health care and other critical-power facilities. The SER-2408 is available with up to 32 GB memory for distributed storage of user drawings and documentation. The SER-2408 complements power monitoring and control schemes by extending input/output and event reporting capabilities.
Cyber Sciences Inc.
The Eaton Power Xpert Multi-Point meter is engineered to accurately track facility energy use in multi-tenant applications and gives property managers and building owners a solution for quantifying, benchmarking, and allocating energy use. The meter is also designed to accurately aggregate gas, water, and steam consumption data to enable a comprehensive review of a facility’s utility use and the development of energy savings solutions. The meters can be installed in new and retrofit applications and include robust commissioning tools that support accurate installation and reliable operation. The meters provide a cost-effective, scalable approach to monitor energy in assemblies or power distribution equipment with a high density of metering points.
E-Mon’s Multi-Mon is a three-phase, multi-function ampere/volt demand meter that provides improved energy efficiency and monitoring capabilities for multi-family, commercial, industrial, data center, and other branch circuit-monitoring applications. A single Multi-Mon metering unit can monitor any combination of single- or multi-phase inputs totaling 36 channels. Accordingly, this permits configuration of up to 36 single-phase, 18 two-phase, 12 three-phase, or other load combinations up to the device’s maximum input capability. Other Multi-Mon features include solid- or split-core current sensors for installation flexibility and compatibility with E-Mon Energy software for automatic meter reading, billing, and profiling.
Power quality/energy monitors, socket meters
E-Mon’s PowerSmart family of power quality and energy monitors and revenue-grade power quality socket meters are designed for commercial, industrial, and institutional energy monitoring applications. The PowerSmart family comes in three models that are designed for a variety of different needs and uses. Features include Modbus RTU via RS-485 communications and combined static metering and time-of-use functions. The monitors offer a selection of solid- and split-core current options. They also come in a variety of configurations that allow users to specify functions that are best suited for their specific application needs.
Three-phase energy logger
The Fluke 1730 three-phase energy logger is an intuitive, easy-to-use tool with professional-level energy data gathering capabilities. The compact energy logger conducts key measurements of voltage, current, power, and power factor to identify areas of energy waste. All measured values are logged automatically and can be reviewed during logging. Common setup errors are rectified, through re-engineered cables, digital check and auto-correct of all connections, and an on-screen wizard for interval setup. It can be powered directly from the measured circuit, eliminating the need to find a power outlet, and has two USB ports for fast data downloads to PCs or standard thumb drives.
Fluke Corporation’s Ti400 infrared camera features advanced connectivity and accuracy to maximize technicians’ productivity in the field. The infrared camera features LaserSharp Auto Focus, which uses a laser to pinpoint exactly where the camera should focus for precisely focused images every time. The rugged Fluke Ti400 connects to the Fluke CNX Wireless system, allowing it to be used as a main unit to view live measurements of up to five wireless modules. The infrared camera features wireless connectivity to easily transfer images from the cameras directly to PCs or iOS devices, which can then be imported into Fluke SmartView software, a professional suite of analysis and reporting tools for creating professional reports.
Visual IR thermometer
Fluke Corporation’s VT04 visual IR thermometer is a troubleshooting tool with built-in digital camera and thermal heat map overlay. The VT04 adds PyroBlend Plus for sharp resolution and is fully automatic with built-in intelligence, so issues can be detected instantly with no training required. The VT04 includes advanced alarm features for troubleshooting stubborn intermittent issues, including a high-low temperature alarm that flashes on the screen if the user-selected temperature goes out of the selected range; a time-lapse image capture that can be set to capture images in 30-second to 1-hour intervals; and an auto-monitor alarm that initiates image capture automatically after a temperature alarm has been triggered.
