BCA’s Best Practices in Commissioning Existing Buildings available online

The Building Commissioning Assn. (BCA) officially released its Best Practices in Commissioning Existing Buildings. The document details practice solutions, facilitates the implementation of existing building commission best practices improvements over time, and assists in the standardization of the commissioning industry.

The Building Commissioning Assn. (BCA) officially released its Best Practices in Commissioning Existing Buildings. The document details practice solutions, facilitates the implementation of existing building commission best practices improvements over time, and assists in the standardization of the commissioning industry. Mark Miller, director of client services at Strategic Building Solutions, Old Saybrook, Conn., and president of the BCA’s northeast chapter, spearheaded the task of developing the document. Best Practices in Commissioning Existing Buildings aims to promote commissioning in the marketplace by defining “the qualities and characteristics of best commissioning practices and establish[ing] a benchmark against which the market can gauge quality and professionalism.”

The document draws upon existing resources such as the California Commissioning Collaborative guide for existing buildings, the BCA’s Building Commissioning Handbook, the National Environmental Balancing Bureau retrocommissioning process, the Associated Air Balance Council Commissioning Group Commissioning Guidelines, ASHRAE Guideline 0-2005, and input from ASHRAE GPC 1.2 and SMACNA.
