ASHRAE Publishes Evaporative Air Cooler Testing Standard
Developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 133-2001, Method of Testing Direct Evaporative Air Coolers, establishes a uniform method for testing the rating of packaged and component direct evaporative air coolers.
Even though evaporative cooling is considered to be the oldest form of air conditioning, no standard method for testing evaporative coolers has existed… until now.
Developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 133-2001, Method of Testing Direct Evaporative Air Coolers , establishes a uniform method for testing the rating of packaged and component direct evaporative air coolers.
“Test results will help engineers, users and code officials size and apply evaporative coolers with confidence,” explains Patricia Thomas Graef, chairperson of the standard committee.
The standard includes testing for saturation effectiveness, airflow rate and total power, as well as measuring static pressure of the direct evaporative air cooler, density of the air and rotation speed of the fan.
