Twenty-nine engineers made up the first group to earn a new certification for healthcare facility design. Developed by ASHRAE in cooperation with the American Society for Healthcare Engineering, these healthcare design professionals earned certification after passing the exam at ASHRAE’s 2007 Annual Meeting in Long Beach, Calif., this summer.

To earn the Healthcare Facility Design Professional (HFDP) certification, candidates must demonstrate a well-rounded understanding and knowledge of medical terminology and facility operations as they affect HVAC/R design in healthcare facilities. An individual should read the HFDP Candidate Guidebook (revised 06/15/07), which contains information related to the examination, eligibility requirements and available resources for the HFDP program.
