Antimicrobial steel-pipe coatings

The Lubrizol Corp. has completed compatibility testing on the first two antimicrobial products to be included in its FGG/BM/CZ System Compatible Program. The additions include Pipe-Shield corrosion inhibitor from Potter Electric Signal Co. and Wheatland Tube Co.’s MIC Shield coating. Pipe-Shield is a biostatic, environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitor designed to protect wet, dry, and pre-action fire sprinkler systems from microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) and oxygen corrosion. MIC Shield is applied to the inner wall of the pipe at the manufacturing facility, acting as a rinsing agent to clean the contact surface. Either product can be applied by manufacturers or as an aftermarket corrosion inhibitor.
