A/E Enhances Business Model to Advance Technology

In a strategic move that responds to emerging design technologies, Philadelphia-based A/E EwingCole has formed EwingCole Digital Media Group (DMG). Formerly a EwingCole wholly owned subsidiary called AEI Digital, DMG transfers experience, tools and talent into the broader realm of technological capabilities and comprehensive services of the firm.

“AEI Digital was formed to deliver technology solutions to the architecture, engineering and interior design industry,” said Michael Schuldt, the former president of AEI Digital and now EwingCole’s managing principal for technology. “The change to EwingCole Digital Media Group reflects the firm’s commitment to provide a broader range of technology solutions to a wider client base.”

EwingCole DMG specializes in three-dimensional computer visualization and high-end media consulting. These services play a crucial role at every stage of a project’s lifecycle, whether from initial design to achieving buy-in from senior management, or obtaining funding and approval from zoning boards and local community groups. The specialty division also provides environment modeling and simulation services to attorneys for litigation support and to other design, media and manufacturing firms.

“This change allows EwingCole to benefit from the talent, creativity and technical innovation that have been incubating at AEI Digital. We are well-positioned for leadership in all aspects of design technology whether for designing, presenting, documenting or in advanced applications such as building information modeling,” said John Gerbner, AIA, president of the firm. “Creating a digital media division within EwingCole renews our long-standing dedication to be at the forefront of technology.”

The firm has used advanced modeling techniques for clients such as NASA, the Architect of the Capitol, and the Social Security Administration. “This year, EwingCole is positioned to expand our BIM capabilities even further,” Gerbner continued.

EwingCole DMG officials said that the firm is positioned for growth and will expand its core services beyond environment modeling and animation, interactive 3-D simulations, motion graphics and video direction and production.
