Mislak is a senior staff engineer and senior project manager at Johnson Controls Inc. He is responsible for new product and equipment platform development and for mentoring the other engineers on his team, guiding them in their careers and supporting the firm’s engineering center in India. He also holds more than 10 patents in the HVAC/R industry. He started in the industry as a young boy working as a helper to his father, who was a master technician and owned his own small HVAC/R business. From the very beginning, Mislak fell in love with engineering and the ability to be able to solve problems, design solutions and rise to the technical challenges that all engineers face. In addition, he worked full time while attending college. He has held increasingly more advanced roles in the HVAC/R industry throughout his career. Mislak has worked as a laboratory and research and development engineer developing refrigerators using hydrocarbon refrigerants for McDonald’s in Europe and carbon dioxide vending machines for Coca-Cola that were used in the Olympics. As an engineering manager, he was part of the Appliance Standards and Rulemaking Federal Advisory Committee that negotiated the 2018 and 2023 minimum efficiency requirements for Unitary Large Equipment with the U.S. Department of Energy. He enjoys supporting the local animal Humane Society and helping take care of the dogs while they await homes. He has worked for Habitat for Humanity on home construction. He also supports the Wounded Warrior program and takes veterans fishing throughout the year. Outside of work Mislak enjoys scuba diving, offshore fishing and rock climbing.
