By Jack Smith and Amara Rozgus May 16, 2019

Osten is a mechanical, electrical and plumbing design phase manager at Mortenson. Working with engineering design and construction teams, he is responsible for aligning MEP/technology scope, schedule and budget in the design phase of project development, setting projects up for safe construction strategies and client operational and financial success. He leads the MEP/T-portion of client proposal interviews to highlight building systems expertise and reflect client long-term goals. He is a champion of the internet of things business-unit development for early design coordination and client impact to information technology and operational technology systems. Osten believes that while engineers need a good technical foundation, curiosity and creative problem-solving is where they really shine. He tries to bring these qualities to the workplace every day in learning new technical skills, trying to understand what drives a client and where the team can innovate to lead. Along with his team, he is engaging the design, construction, facilities management, corporate real estate, integrated automation, controls engineering and information technology communities to push the envelope on intelligent buildings. Osten is a philanthropy committee co-chair at Dunwoody College of Technology, a board member at Future City Minnesota, a member of IBCON Advisory Council and a student-athlete mentor with the University of Minnesota Athletic Department. Osten enjoys traveling, experiencing new cultures and people, being active in the outdoors and being with his family. He also enjoys spending time with his extended family in the Minneapolis area. He considers his greatest accomplishments in his life the family he’s built thus far with his wife, Heather, and experiencing their young son discovering new joys.
