2018 40 Under 40: Peter Arvay, PE, CEM; 33

By Jack Smith, Content Manager; Amara Rozgus, Editor-in-Chief May 14, 2018

Senior Project Manager, Energy Squared, Princeton, N.J.

BS mechanical and aerospace engineering, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, N.J.

Arvay started at Energy Squared in Princeton, N.J., in June 2012 as a project manager and was promoted to senior project manager in June 2015. Before joining the firm, he worked for TRC Energy Services and Center for Advanced Energy Systems. He is the only person in Energy Squared’s history to have obtained both his electrical and mechanical PE licenses. Arvay firmly believes that having a team mindset is paramount to being a successful engineer. He likes to take a collaborative approach when working on a project so that he and others can share and exchange knowledge. Of his own volition, he initiated a weekly inner-office training session to educate staff on the basics of electrical design. While this class was initially intended for entry-level employees to help them understand the MEP world, the educational seminars turned into much more as senior-level individuals from other disciplines (mechanical, plumbing, refrigeration) as well as the company’s administrative and accounting team began to attend. These after-hours classes have made a significant contribution to the overall quality of Energy Squared’s design services and became the template for other training opportunities. Arvay is a volunteer speaker for the Rutgers University engineering program and advises the school’s interns regarding career/life skills development and guidance. He is a Make-A-Wish Foundation fundraiser through the Community Associate Institute of New Jersey and Young Professionals Connective. Arvay is a member and advocate for Citizens Climate, a nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots advocacy organization focused on national policies to address climate change. He is also a volunteer for Advancing Opportunities/Cerebral Palsy of New Jersey. In his free time, Arvay enjoys woodworking, reading, and being outdoors.
