BS industrial and systems engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology

Moerlins is an associate and senior mechanical engineer at Interface Engineering in Portland, Ore. He brings a unique perspective to the design process and more than 10 years of design experience. Having begun his career as a project manager with a mechanical contractor, he is able to approach each design with sustainability and constructibility in mind. The diversity of his experience with mechanical systems in buildings of varying use enables him to provide expert analysis on mechanical systems of differing applications and types for renovation design as well as operations troubleshooting. As a senior mechanical engineer, Moerlins recognizes that the knowledge he has gained during his career should be passed down to his junior colleagues. He participates in a mentorship program at Interface Engineering and regularly meets with junior teammates to help guide and inspire their career growth. He regularly engages in philanthropic volunteer opportunities, ranging from tree planting to trash pickup as well as participating in Habitat for Humanity projects. Moerlins also served as the membership chair for the local Oregon chapter of ASHRAE. He continues to participate in fundraising events for organizations like the American Red Cross, Schoolhouse Supplies, and The Freshwater Trust. In addition to working as a mechanical engineer, he is a husband and a father of two young children. He spends his free time exploring the world with his family. Camping, hiking, and travel have become favorite pastimes for the Moerlins family. He has also played music from a young age and still enjoys writing and performing music whenever possible. Once a member of an Atlanta rock band, he now performs acoustic shows in Portland.
