2018 40 Under 40: Laura Geiger, PE, LEED AP BD+C; 30
Associate, WSP, Dallas
BS and MS architectural engineering, Kansas State University, Manhattan
Geiger is an associate electrical engineer for WSP working in the firm’s Dallas office as a lead electrical engineer and construction administrator. She started at the firm after earning her degree and has been an integral part of several diverse project teams including 1 million-sq-ft greenfield hospitals, lab-testing facilities, psychiatric hospitals, and office renovations. She takes great pride in her work. Over the past few years, Geiger also has assumed the responsibility of managing projects that include central plants with medium-voltage switchgear and the accountability of supervising and leading teams of domestic and international designers. She leads her teams by example, works hard, and treats everyone with respect. Geiger has played for BvB Dallas, which stands for blondes versus brunettes, flag football for 4 years. This young professional organization combines fun, fellowship, and philanthropy, raising money for Alzheimer’s disease research while playing a charity football game each summer. She enjoys baking delicious desserts that she finds on Pinterest, in old recipe books, and from recipes that have been passed down from family members. Working out also is important to Geiger. Any sport or class is a fine choice, from racquetball to weights to apartment fitness classes, like Zumba, to weekly pickup basketball games at church. She participates in the yearly Form Follows Fitness 5k run through downtown Dallas with fellow WSP colleagues, which is sponsored by local engineering and architecture companies.
