Blount is an associate who leads the Acoustics, Audiovisual, and Theater Consulting team in Arup’s Seattle office. Educated with a background in engineering and music, he is uniquely positioned at the intersection of acoustics, technology, and architectural design. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with the highest-profile architects, engineers, and clients covering a wide range of building sectors. He has successfully led multidisciplinary teams, with a common goal of innovation, integration, and sustainable design excellence. Blount’s acoustic consulting experience includes room acoustic design, measurement, modeling and analysis, airborne and structure-borne sound isolation, mechanical systems noise and vibration control, environmental noise assessments, and specification of acoustic materials and methods. His innovative work in the SoundLab has advanced Arup’s auralization and visualization capabilities for clients and design teams. Blount is a member of several national acoustics societies including the Acoustical Society of America, the National Council of Acoustical Consultants, and the Audio Engineering Society. He also is a frequent guest lecturer at several universities including Parsons New School of Design, Cooper Union School of Architecture, and New York University. Blount serves as Arup’s regional Acoustic Skills Network leader in the Americas. In addition to continuing to enjoy music performance and recording, he is an active trail runner, downhill skier, and sailboat deckhand. He and his wife also enjoy a friendly game of tennis most weekends, with an impressive multiyear losing streak to his in-laws. He and his wife continue their love and dedication to the sport by which they met: competitive Ultimate Frisbee.
