Principal Electrical Engineer, Spectrum Engineers
David Hinckley, PE; 40
Principal Electrical Engineer, Spectrum Engineers, Salt Lake City
BS Electrical Engineering and BA German, University of Utah, Salt Lake City
While in college, Hinckley worked at Spectrum Engineers in Salt Lake City as an intern. After graduating, the firm offered him a full-time position. Since then, he has completed hundreds of projects for corporate, religious, government, and private institutions. His projects vary in scale from a small cosmetology school in rural Utah to large office-building projects in metropolitan areas. He also has experience designing plans for buildings overseas, such as the LDS Temple in Sapporo, Japan. This broad range of project experience could not have happened if not for his high standard for quality and developing good working relationships with clients. Hinckley is now a principal and part owner at Spectrum Engineers. He is an active member of the local Utah chapter of the ACE Mentor Program of America. This nonprofit organization helps mentor high school students and inspires them to pursue careers in engineering, architecture, and construction. ACE also raises millions of dollars each year for scholarships to award to young students. Hinckley has tutored college and high school students in math for more than 2 decades, and it is no surprise that he wants to engage young minds to pursue math as an educational discipline. He also is an active member of the Utah Facilities Operations & Maintenance Association, an organization that helps provide high-quality facilities to support K-12 education. Much to the delight of his wife, Hinckley has recently developed a love for cooking and trying out new recipes. At the end of the day, he loves helping his children with their homework, practicing piano, riding horses, and playing board games. Above all, he enjoys spending time with family and chatting with his children about their day.
