As a senior consultant with Arup’s Los Angeles office, Valmont offers a versatile skill set with experience in architecture and acoustics. She is deeply involved with business development and community outreach for engineering students. She also teaches architectural acoustics at the University of Southern California’s (USC) School of Architecture, and recently earned her PhD while working full time. She has 10 years of experience in the acoustic design and engineering field, where she has developed an expertise in architectural acoustics, exterior and interior sound containment, and building systems noise and vibration control. At Arup, Valmont has led the design and construction of various projects in the performing arts, education, corporate, and civic sectors. Prior to Arup, she worked at the acoustic firm Veneklasen Associates. She commits to mentoring students, especially in an academic capacity. She dedicates much of her time to students in the USC School of Architecture and has volunteered her time serving on USC master’s thesis committees. She contributes to organizations, such as Good Shepherd Women’s Shelter, Operation Smile, and Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles. As a classically trained pianist and vocalist since childhood, Valmont is very passionate about the performing arts. She is a deeply spiritual person who has always had a fascination with world religions and spiritual practices. In her free time, she often reads about Eastern philosophies and Western religions and enjoys finding the parallel truths among them. She stays physically active with pilates, yoga, and rock climbing. After she finishes teaching her spring course load at USC, she will head to Joshua Tree National Park, Twentynine Palms, Calif., for an outdoor rock climbing adventure and to experience the silence of the desert.
