2015 NEBB Conference to focus on HVAC, BAS issues and standards
The National Environmental Balancing Bureau is hosting its 2015 annual conference in Honolulu April 16 to 18. The conference will cover topics including fume hood testing, cleanroom performance testing, NEBB building enclosure testing, and NEBB retro-commissioning for certified professionals.
The National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) is hosting its 2015 annual conference in Honolulu April 16 to 18. The conference includes several training seminars and certification exams, and will cover topics including fume hood testing, cleanroom performance testing, NEBB building enclosure testing, and NEBB retro-commissioning for certified professionals.
Conference speakers, old steam heating systems, and smoke control
There will be several keynote presentations on topics such as old steam heating systems, smoke control, the power of human memory, and cash flow and budgeting for companies. Dan Holohan will host a 3-hour technical seminar on the types of old steam heating systems and what can go wrong with them. Holohan’s seminar will also focus on steam heating loads, boiler ratings, the importance of water quality, pressure settings, and more. Dr. John Klote will present a two-part session on smoke control. Both sessions will focus on pressurization systems and atrium systems. Other keynote speakers will cover more business-related topics. Bob Gray will speak about the untapped potential of the human memory, and Bill Kinnard will address cash flow budgeting and collections.
Other speaking opportunities will be held throughout the conference. Consulting-Specifying Engineer’s Editor in Chief, Amara Rozgus, will address the state of the HVAC and BAS industry.
The conference will also cover topics such as air leakage testing methods for commercial buildings and ducts. There will also be an overview of the USP797 testing opportunities and the update to the ISO14644-1.2 and 2.2 standards. Other topics include seawater cooling and the principal differences for hydronic balancing; airtightness testing for larger and more complex buildings; noise measurement and noise control concepts; and the latest advances in clean air solutions.
Certified technician seminars and exams
NEBB also will host training seminar for engineers who are unable to attend the conference. Those seminars include:
- NEBB fume hood testing seminar – April 13 to 14: This seminar will present an overview of laboratory HVAC concepts. It will also cover environmental safety enclosures, biological safety cabinets, and other containment enclosures. The seminar will emphasize proper testing procedures, reporting requirements, and evaluating test results.
- NEBB cleanroom performance testing seminar – April 13 to 15: This seminar will cover the NEBB Procedural Standards for Certified Testing of Cleanrooms, best practices in health care settings, and a review of critical codes and standards for cleanroom testing.
- NEBB enclosure testing seminar – April 20 to 21: This seminar will discuss air barrier enclosures from design to material selection and installation, reviewing various testing methods and procedures currently specified, and how to analyze and troubleshoot enclosure issues, focusing on the use of thermal imaging.
- NEBB technical retro-commissioning seminar – April 20 to 22: This seminar will provide an overview of the NEBB technical retro-commissioning program, introduce the technical retro-commissioning process, investigate process best practices, and discuss energy calculations.
