Marc Zuluaga, PE, 36 Senior Vice President; Director, Multifamily Energy Services, Steven Winter Associates Inc., New York BS Mechanical Engineering, Brown University

Zuluaga is a pragmatist and an engineering realist, concerned with sound application of design methods and accurately measured results. He is less concerned with reinventing the wheel than he is with identifying existing design faults, correcting them, and monitoring ongoing performance. His time at Brown University concluded with a Royce Fellowship grant to study geothermal heat pump applications in buildings, after which he began his tenure with Steven Winter Associates (SWA) as an intern, and has remained with SWA for 14 years. As a vice president and director of SWA’s multifamily energy services, Zuluaga has directed energy audits on more than 20 million sq ft of existing buildings and leads a team committed to applying a rigorous technical approach to evaluating and implementing a wide range of building upgrades. Within the new construction sector, he oversaw high-performance design and commissioning services for the 121 Martin Luther King Apartments in the Bronx, the first high-rise multifamily Energy Star building in the U.S. Zuluaga recently served on two task forces organized by New York City’s USGBC regional chapter (Urban Green Council). He contributes his expertise in building science to further two valuable citywide initiatives: greening building codes and raising building resiliency. At home, Zuluaga enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, and son.
