McGimpsey joined Affiliated Engineers Inc. (AEI) in 2005 as a mechanical engineer. She quickly gained project management and mechanical engineering expertise in designing R&D, federal, biocontainment, chemical containment, and infrastructure facilities. She recently provided engineering leadership on the Porter Neuroscience Research Center Phase II project at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Md. This project received USGBC LEED Gold and three Green Globes certifications, and is the first on the NIH campus to implement chilled-beam technology. McGimpsey is the quality manager in her office and is responsible for ensuring compliance with the quality framework plan, which focuses on quality assurance, quality control, and quality improvement. Today, she is one of AEI’s science and technology market leaders and is gaining prominence nationally as an authority on chilled beam technology, flexible and adaptable laboratory space, and the advanced use of building information modeling (BIM) technology. McGimpsey contributes to the architectural engineering field as a leader, an innovator, and an implementer. She was named a principal at AEI earlier this year. Representing a new generation of the firm and a new generation of the field, she is committed to mentoring the next generation. She donates her time serving as a jury member for the Charles Pankow Annual Architectural Engineering Student Competition where she works with student teams on their competition presentations. Outside the office, family is a priority for McGimpsey. She enjoys music and is a classically trained pianist. She started playing piano when she was 6 years old. She also has a passion for traveling.
