Dang is a senior leader with 15 years of professional and research experience in energy-efficient, high-performance building design and operation as well as environmentally sustainable urban communities. As a performative design group studio head, she led the sustainable design practice at the Chicago office of Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM). Recently, she accepted a position as director at dbHMS where she will lead the firm’s East Coast practice in Philadelphia. She works across multiple disciplines-architecture, engineering, and urban planning-integrating and delivering efficient high-performing technologies, systems, and solutions. She has worked on numerous sustainable international developments with a strong focus on demand management and clean, efficient closed-loop infrastructure systems. While designing and managing a broad range of sustainability projects, Dang directs a team of building performance analysts in conducting technical evaluations using simulation tools to assess the environmental performance of various green building strategies and system alternates, and optimizing designs to provide enhanced comfort while reducing operating energy. Dang started her career in India, graduating from TVB School of Habitat Studies and then working for an architectural practice in Delhi. However, her interest in passive system performance drove her to pursue her master’s at ASU focusing on climate and energy. She was part of the initial visioning and research team that collaborated with the City of Chicago to develop Retrofit Chicago’s Commercial Building Initiative, a voluntary leadership effort to increase energy efficiency in large commercial buildings. She worked on identifying energy efficiency opportunities and implementing reduction measures for the SOM office space, a part of the historic Santa Fe building, which is a participant in the program.
