As a project manager for Heapy Engineering, David Madden oversees construction projects with budgest as large as $200 million all around Ohio. Before coming to Heapy, Madden started his career as a CAD draftsman for a local engineering firm. After working at Heapy for the past 12 years, Madden has shifted from plumbing and fire protection designer to project manager where he manages all aspects of engineering projects, including financial performance, client relationships, technical quality, and construction review. As a plumbing and fire protection designer, Madden has led systems concepts, design, cost estimating, specification writing, and construction follow-up for projects. He has designed systems for municipal, institutional, educational, commercial, and communication facilities. Although Madden is commended for his designer and managerial roles, it is his position as a speaker that he is best known for. In the past 3 years, Madden has presented in-house training sessions on project management and an educational seminar on the public construction procurement law for public entities that was passed some years ago. Madden leverages his communication skills not only in and around the firm but also outside the office and in local politics. By speaking to voters in his community, Madden was able to help pass a local school district levy in his community—a levy that had failed to pass for 8 consecutive years. In 2013, with the support of community organizers, Madden was unanimously elected to the school board of his residence in Greenville, Ohio. Madden’s involvement with the school board became essential once the levy passed and the district was charged with procuring a $65 million construction project with a new K-8 school building and a high school renovation. During his free time, Madden can be found fishing with his teenage son or playing a round of golf with his friends.
