Jeremy Smith is a high achiever both academically and professionally. He was named “most outstanding mechanical engineer” in his sophomore and senior years at the University of Kentucky, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2001. At 26, Smith became a partner at CMTA, and 2 years later he became a vice president. His dedication to sustainable design now propels his professional career and volunteer activities. The firm has engineered 72 Energy Star buildings, and Smith is directly responsible for 30 of them. Smith also led the engineering design of the first Energy Star residence hall in Kentucky, Thomson Hall at Transylvania University. His work on Flaherty Primary School achieved an energy usage index of 21 kBtu and an Energy Star score of 100. Smith serves on the Kentucky chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Board of Directors and is a board member for the ACE Mentor Program. He fosters his lifelong interest in music, playing lead guitar in a contemporary Christian music band. With three children under 6 years old, Smith spends his free time with his family where movie nights, game nights, and outdoor activities fill his evenings. He also helps coach his 5-year-old’s basketball and soccer teams.
