Those who work with Daric Hess will often catch him in the office at 6 a.m., getting an early start so that he can leave in time to attend his kids’ games, help them on a school project, or attend a church committee meeting. Hess’ dedication to his family mirrors his fast climb in the electrical design of medical buildings that began in college. He received special permission to take more than the allowable credits per semester, graduating Summa Cum Laude in slightly longer than 31/2 years. Now, after about 7 years at Heapy Engineering, Hess is a senior project manager for multiple medical building projects. Some of his notable designs include the new Mercy West Hospital and the Idu & Raj Soin Medical Center, both in Ohio. Recently, Hess was elected by Heapy Engineering’s board of directors to serve a 2-year term on the executive committee, where he will be involved in more hands-on oversight of the company. In addition, Hess is a member of the American Society of Healthcare Engineers and a past NFPA technical committee member. Known as a handyman by his friends and family, Hess applies his knowledge of construction to personal projects such as building a deck in his backyard and finishing out his basement.
