2011 POY Finalists: Plumbing and Water Management
Finalists in Plumbing and Water Management in Consulting-Specifying Engineer's 2011 Product of the Year competition
Seated Shower
American Standard’s seated safety shower has a wide, contoured seating area made of durable acrylic. The product was designed for the elderly and the disabled, and it features a recessed front, accessory ledge for personal items, and a built-in armrest. There is a low 3-in. threshold and a built-in wrap-around grab bar to ensure confidence and safety. It is available in white or linen colors, and left- or right-hand configurations. The seat measures 60 x 30 x 37 in., and because it is supported by the frame and five adjustable feet, no additional support is required.
Flush valve
Moen’s M-Power dual-flush closet valve provides sanitary protection for commercial restrooms. This sensor-operated automatic valve limits false sensing and overflushing, and stops the spread of germs. The solid brass body and angle stop valve are vandal-resistant, and the piston technology prevents water hammer and requires little maintenance. The valve has silicone seals to prevent leaks and an internal filter screen that eliminates clogs and run-ons. It operates at 10 to 120 psi and has a mechanical override button in the event of power loss, and there is no need to reset it after water-pressure loss, which saves on labor.

Water heater
The Rheem-Ruud Spiderfire line of condensing-type commercial water heaters offers a wide range of Btu inputs with thermal efficiencies from 92% to 95%. The 350,000-Btu-input unit can deliver 460 gal of water/hr at a 100 F rise. All models are equipped with a 100-gal storage tank and can operate on either natural gas or liquid propane. They can be installed as a single-pipe, power-vented product, or as a two-pipe, power direct-vented product if negative air pressure or indoor air quality is a concern. The tubes inside the heater’s flue system are coated with porcelain enamel to resist corrosion.
