Christian Taber, LEED AP, CEM, 35

Senior Applications Engineer, Big Ass Fan Co., Lexington, Ky.

Iowa State University of Science and Technology, BS Chemical Engineering, MS Mechanical Engineering

Taber is a member of the research and development (R&D) team for Big Ass Fan Co., and he helps to develop and test the company’s portfolio of high-volume, low-speed fans. His colleagues know him as a selfless individual who often sacrifices nights and weekends to make sure the appropriate fans are applied to a design. He is dedicated to sustainable building design, and he was instrumental in the certification of the company’s R&D lab to LEED Gold standards. He is a liaison between the engineering group and prospective customers regarding facility needs, and he assists the marketing department with the composition of technical marketing and corporate communications. Taber tirelessly dedicates himself to the company in all aspects of the business, and since his arrival, the Big Ass Fan Co. has experienced double-digit growth in sales volume. He regularly leads company trainings, offers guided facility tours to colleagues, customers, and government officials, and has been published in various trade and scholarly journals. Meanwhile, he finds time to serve on the board of directors for the USGBC-Kentucky chapter and as a voting member for the ASHRAE Standard 90.1 Standing Standard Project Committee and the Energy Cost Budget subcommittee. His colleagues praise him for his ability to explain complex concepts to others and develop consensus among group members. Despite Taber’s already-packed schedule, he is also pursuing a doctorate in biosystems engineering from the University of Kentucky. He routinely speaks at events for local ASHRAE and USGBC chapters, and has given presentations at the University of Kentucky and Iowa State University about energy-efficient building design. On the weekends, Taber and his wife Lesley enjoy spending time on the golf course. He also keeps busy by applying sustainable solutions to his own home, where he’s recently installed high-efficiency plumbing fixtures, LED lighting, and native landscaping for his expansive garden.
