The concept of “super sessions” will be introduced at the 2007 IEEE Power Engineering Society General Meeting in Tampa, Fla., scheduled for June 24 through 28, 2007 at the Tampa Convention Center and the Marriott Waterside Hotel in Tampa.

The super sessions consist of a series of presentations, designed to fully examine selected topics.

Walking Closer to the Edge and Vision 2020 are the two super sessions that have been developed so far. The former, specifically, will investigate the impact of increasing load demands that are being put on existing transmission systems.

The Vision 2020 sessions have been divided into three parts.

2020 Vision of Substations with presentations covering De-icer technologies, dealing with aged equipment, low SF6 MV switch and comparisons of DC/AC options.

Future Digital Substations with presentations focusing on cyber security, 61850 interoperability, advanced transducer concepts, and grounding issues, such as EM forces, PD radiation, step voltage shunt capacitors and advances in ground grid design.

Blackout Prevention will feature the latest concepts in event location prediction, power grid monitoring, state estimation, wide area reactive power control, and wide area visualization.

The General Meeting theme is “ Powering the Future, Today.”
