White paper examines how preventive maintenance frequency increases UPS system reliability and performance

Emerson Network Power, Columbus, Ohio, has announced the availability of a white paper entitled, “The Effect of Regular, Skilled Preventive Maintenance on Critical Power System Reliability.”
The white paper provides an in-depth analysis on how a comprehensive preventive maintenance program can maximize the reliability and performance of the UPS systems on which organizations depend to keep critical systems running. The analysis quantifies the change in system reliability based on the frequency of preventive maintenance activity on Liebert UPS systems.
The information will be presented by Emerson Network Power Service Senior Product Manager Jeff Powers as part of a Tech Session titled “Measuring Service Best Practices” at Emerson’s AdaptiveXchange 2007, Nov. 29-30 in Baltimore.
To provide insight into the impact of the frequency of preventive maintenance visits on system reliability, Emerson analyzed data collected by its service organization, which maintains a database of service-related events for large facility UPS systems in the data center support services industry.
“The research results contained in this white paper support [our] recommendation of at least two preventive maintenance visits per year. It shows that the number of preventive maintenance visits, as well as the service engineer’s level of training, can have a substantial impact on system reliability,” said Powers.
