Two of the industry's largest fire protection and life safety engineering firms, The RJA Group (Chicago, IL) and Hughes Associates (Baltimore, MD), have reached an agreement to merge. The combined firm will have 500 employees and more than $100 million in revenue. Link to details

Global engineering and consulting firm WSP (Montreal, Canada) acquired civil, structural and façade consulting firm Winward (Melbourne, Australia), which will be integrated in WSP's new WSP Structures division in the Asia Pacific Region. Link to details

Construction and civil engineering firm Shamrock Geoscience (Wetzlar, Germany) signed an agreement to merge with Solanbridge Group (Spring, TX), a diversified holding company with investments in a variety of industries. Link to details

Global energy firm GDF Suez (Paris, France) acquired 1,300-person energy efficiency and utility consulting firm Ecova (Spokane, WA). In a unique transaction, six Canadian architecture firms have merged to form Architecture 49 (Winnipeg, Canada) and have formed a strategic partnership with WSP. The firms that joined to form Architecture 49 included PBK Architects (Vancouver, Canada), Smith Carter (Winnipeg, Canada), Arcop (Montreal, Canada), WHW Architects (Halifax, Canada), AE Consultants (Newfoundland, Canada) and N46 (Prince Edward Island, Canada).
