USGBC’s 2007 Greenbuild Moved from Los Angeles to Chicago

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) announced this week that its Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, is moving to Chicago for its 2007 show, which will be held on Nov. 7 to Nov. 9 as previously announced.

Originally scheduled for Los Angeles, Greenbuild was to be moved from October to November to accommodate a business development opportunity for the Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau. But last week Los Angeles authorities notified USGBC that to meet its needs, they would need to move to a December date. USGBC officials felt that another date change would be detrimental to Greenbuild and so decided on Chicago. USGBC officials announced that they hope to bring the show back to Los Angeles at a future date.

“Chicago is welcoming us with open arms,” said Peter Templeton, USGBC vice president of education and research. “Chicago is not only one of the greenest cities in the country, Mayor Richard Daley has set a high bar for sustainable leadership and green building is a significant part of his commitment.”

Daley has pledged in the past to make Chicago the most environmentally friendly city in the world. City officials claim that it was one of the first cities to adopt the USGBC’s LEED accreditation system. They also claim that it has the most LEED registered projects of any city in the world.
