Shirley T. Ramos, training consultant with FMI, kicked off the 2014 NEBB Annual Conference with the presentation, "Understanding Today’s Workforce and Recovering the Lost Generation for Industry’s Future." In this session, she touched on three key points that engineers and managers should consider:

  • Baby boomers are leaving the workplace, and should work to train Generation X and Y to take their place
  • The key to working with Generation Y (also known as Millennials) is communication
  • For Generation Y, the keys to retention are adequate pay, work-life balance, and structure.
